Phang Nga Bay
"A distinctive feature of Phang Nga Bay are the sheer limestone karsts that jut vertically out of the emerald-green water. James Bond Island and Koh Panyee are just two of the more famous spots in this bay. By far the best means of enjoying the spectacular scenery, with only brief encounters with the tourist crowds at James Bond and Koh Panyee, is to take one of the boat trips from the northern end of Phuket.
A leisurely day trip cruising through the dramatic limestone islands, occasionally stopping to enjoy quiet beaches, is far more rewarding than the standard bus-boat tour." (phuket.com)

Old Phuket Town
"you will find shrines, temples (Buddhist and Chinese), ornate and beautifully preserved 'shophouses', quaint cafés, tiny printing shops, impromptu private and public museums and even a mini ex-red light district." (phuket.com)

Amulets Market in Phuket Town
"In the alley is a long row of stands, each displaying hundreds of amulets. Behind these is a small row of shops, also selling amulets and Buddha images. The displays attract a variety of people, using magnifying glasses to check the wares. There is quiet, serious discussion but when Phuket.com tries to talk with vendors, they are very shy and plainly would rather not talk to journalists." (phuket.com)

Monkey Hill in Phuket Town
"Toe Sae Hill in Phuket Town is sometime referred to as Monkey Hill. The reason why becomes fairly obvious after a few hundred metres when you come across a troupe of macaques munching away on fruit brought to them by locals.
Probably the highest hill in Phuket Town, Monkey Hill is home to a few TV and radio stations and a popular recreation spot where many locals jog on a daily basis. The hill has a number of great viewpoints at different levels." Phuket.com

Flying Hanuman in Phuket
"If you’re the type of person who loves to zip through the sky 40 metres above a jungle, Flying Hanuman in Kathu is just the right place for you. Eco-friendly and well executed, Flying Hanuman explores the jungle in a decidedly aerial way.
We arrive at a lobby thronging with participants and have a quick look around. The place is superbly designed, with artistic touches here and there, immaculate toilets and a restaurant to the left of the lobby. We then watch a safety-and-information DVD on a 40” flat screen TV incongruously hanging in a bamboo-and-thatch hut that is so well done that it gains a round of applause from a rowdy group of students." phuket.com

Parasailing
"people pay about 800 up to 1,300 baht per ride which lasts only about five minutes max. Some operators might try to use the terms ‘short rope’ and ‘long rope’ to make the prices higher, so you might need to practice some bargaining skills before committing to any length of rope. Riders will get a brief about safety procedures as well as ‘getting dressed’ in a lifejacket and hooked up to a parachute. Before being pulled out to the bay by a speedboat, a support person (aka the ‘Monkey Man’) will come along and perch above you without any security gear whatsoever. His main job is to guide the parachute and help you to land safely. The Monkey Man expects a tip for a good landing but it is totally up to you, the rider. Please bear in mind that it is unlikely that your travel insurance company will cover you if anything goes wrong." phuket.com

Windsurfing in Phuket
Of the 16 beaches on the west coast of Phuket, at least 8 offer windsurfing facilities. Patong, the most developed of these, has seven or eight windsurfing shops along the beach. Lessons are available for beginners. The quality of equipment of instruction is sometimes better at the big hotels, although some of the independent operators offer fine service as well. phuket.com

Snorkeling
The tropical waters of the Andaman Sea are ideal for snorkeling - clear, calm, balmy and bursting with brilliant marine life. Snorkeling can be done year-round in Phuket, but the best time of year is November-April, when the sea's at its most placid.
tips.
- wear thick sunscreen; sun's rays are magnified by water
- Be wary of jet-skis and make yourself as visible as possible while snorkelling
- Always defog your mask before diving. No use swimming amongst beautiful tropical fish if you can’t see them
- Kicking from the hip is the most effective way to use your fins
- Please do not touch coral under any circumstances

Surfing
"Kata beach is the main place for renting boards, with about seven rental outlets. You won’t have to look far as some of them are right on the beach. Ask around a bit before deciding where to rent. The best offers we found were: One hour, 150 baht; one day 500 baht; one month 7,000 baht. You can also inquire about 10-hour packages, which cost around 1,000 baht and allow you to decide when to use the hours." phuket.com

Phuket Kitesurfing
Beginners appreciate the shallow waters and gentle breezes of the southeast coast while over at Nai Yang and Layan beaches in northwest Phuket, more practiced kitesurfers really let rip with acrobatic stunts. " phuket.com

Jet Ski
Jet-skis are available for hire at most of the island’s major beaches. It’s a fun and popular activity but it should be noted that, beyond providing life jackets, there is little regard for safety and – on Patong Beach in particular – speedboats and jet-skis can be seen navigating dangerously close to swimmers.
There are currently more than 200 licensed jet-skis in Phuket with over a hundred in Patong and the rest on Bangtao, Kamala, Karon and Kata beaches. Would-be riders should look for the ‘insurance jet ski’ sticker on the vehicle’s side. Beware of the fact that a number of jet-ski operators operate their business without a proper license, not to mention taking out rock-solid insurance.
A session of 30 minutes costs from 800 up to 1,500 baht depending on when, where and which jet-ski operators you talk to. But you might come across advertising brochures quoting jet-ski rental rates as 1,500 baht for 30 minutes, 2,000 baht for 40 minutes, and 3,000 baht for 60 minutes. An extra rider costs 200 baht.
- Under Thai law, jet-skis may only be operated by people holding a valid Thai sea captain's license but the regulation is rarely checked or enforced by officers on the island.
- There have been a few distressing stories about false damage accusations when riders return jet-skis. The most publicized of all was when in late 2009 a British documentary called Big Trouble in Tourist Thailand showed footage of JJ, a Patong based jet-ski operator threatening Jack, a British marine, over dubious jet-ski damages at gunpoint. In a short while it got more than a million hits on YouTube.com alone. This episode, as well as increasing complaints from aggrieved riders, changed the entire jet-ski business in Phuket. New regulations have since come out that all jet-skis must be insured, but not all operators obey them.
- A good number to remember if you decide to try a jet-ski is 1155. It is the Tourist Police’s phone number
